The Cotswolds Daytrip Part 2 - Blenheim Palace

October 02, 2014

Part two of our Cotswolds Day Trip this summer carrying on from our Daylesford lunch.

We weren't far from Bleinham Palace in Woodstock so decided to stop there on our way home to make the most of the sunshine. It was 26 degrees that day! Bleinham is well worth a visit and is a world heritage site. We first went last August and bought a one day pass that then converted into an annual one for free so we were keen to get a second visit out of our tickets.

The view as you drive in is stunning, Lady Randolf Churchill once stated that it is 'the finest view in England'. The photo doesn't really do it justice it was so bright and on my iPhone, I regretted not taking my proper camera.

The palace is a world heritage site and was built in the 18th century in Baroque architecture. I've got to be honest I'm not too interested in history or looking around the palace but it's so gorgeous and impressive, the kind of place you can't stop looking at. We visit mainly for a wander around the 2000 acres of Capability Brown parkland and formal gardens.

We felt like we were in Italy or somewhere that afternoon, it was super hot for England with such gorgeous surroundings and the magnificent palace.

We walked around the fountains and formal gardens before heading out into the parkland walking across bridges and huge expanses of lawn looking back at the palace. You could spend a whole day here and not get round to seeing everything and that's without even going inside the palace.

There are various temples around the grounds, Winston Churchill actually proposed in this one pictured above.

It was almost too hot to do a big enough walk to see everything that afternoon but we've vowed to return in the autumn with proper walking shoes to do a big loop, you could walk for miles there.

Before we left we made sure to go and visit the rose gardens, perched on a hill looking down to the river. It really is a beautiful place and we were just as impressed as the first time we visited which is somewhat of a rarity. Normally you remember places as better than they actually were.

We can't wait to go back again soon it looks gorgeous in all seasons. You should definitely try and visit both Daylesford and Blenheim Palace if you're around the Cotswolds anytime soon.
